🎓Back to School, Back to you: Self-Care habits for Busy Mums

August is Augusting, the kids are eating their body weight in snacks, breaking bedtime curfew, and you've barely had a quiet moment to yourself. Sound familiar?

But here's the good news: September is on the horizon, and with is comes a little bit of you time. 💚

I've been thinking about how much happier I am when I’m in the term time routine and what I can do to make my mental health better when I feel a little... lost and Meh!

So if you want to make the most off that "Back-to-school freedom", the trick I think is to start now. Here's how to you can help set yourself up for September with simple, free self care habits you can start today, and how to take it to the next level when those school gates finally open.

🍃 5 Free Self-Care Habits You Can Start Now.

  1. 10-Minute Morning Ritual 🕚

Before the kids wake up, have a shower or wash your face, moisturise, and put your hair up in a way that makes you feel done. Don't just throw it in a mum bun or slick it back. You know how you like it when you feel good. Small, but it can change your whole day. Don't forget to be kind to yourself in the mirror. Don't start your day on a few negative words. Tell yourself you got this, you're feeling good and you're going to have a great day. Manifest that Mood Queen. 🪞

  1. Nightly "Switch off" Routine 🌙

Put your phone down 30 minutes before bed, make a conscious decision to not get stuck in the doom scroll. Leave your phone downstairs or outside your bedroom if you can. If not put it on do not disturb and don't touch it for the rest of the night. Even better: don't pick it up again until after your morning ritual. Take a technology detox. 📵

Use the evening time to detox, destress, and breathe. Stretch if that's your thing, but you'll be suprised at how freeing it is to not be connected 24/7. The longer you stick to it, the better it feels (trust me!)

TOP TIP: You can set do not disturb and also allow important contacts to still get through, so you don't have to worry about missing an important call or message. My phone is set on do not disturb from 10pm till 7am.

  1. De-clutter your beauty bag 💄

Throw away that old mascara and the products you never use. If it hasn't been touched by now, it never will be - and besides, it's probably well past it's use by date. I know I've got a drawer full of dated Body Shop body butters and yoghurts I just can't bring myself to throw out. 😅🫣

Cleanse your energy with a clean, tidy get ready space free from clutter and mess. It's time for a fresh start. A fresh season means fresh energy (and maybe a pumpkin spiced candle or two 🎃✨️). Don't forget to book your brow and lash treatment with me, then you won't need that mascara or brow pencil anyway.

  1. Create a feel good playlist 🎧

We all love a good song and dance when we're cleaning the house or putting the washing on. It's an instant mood lift. Yes, full Mrs. Doubtfire energy, and be sure to bring that energy with you to your next treatment. Good moods are catching.

  1. Block out your September "me" time 📆

Even before you book, block out your self-care time in the calender. Make one of those slots a non-negotiable salon visit. Believe me, if it's not in the calendar it's not happening. Even 30-60 minutes counts - use it to read that book or magazine you’ve been meaning too, or take a long soak in the bath. Set your alarms and stick to it. Remember that calm disconnected feeling from your night and morning routines, add more of that into your day. Thank me later. 💚
